Sahuarita, AZ – Sept. 10, 2024– The 13th Annual Breeze in the Trees welcomed athletes and health-conscious participants to Sahuarita’s picturesque pecan orchard on Aug.17, 2024. This scenic run, part of The Pecan Orchard Series, offered a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the orchard while supporting local non-profits. Participants had the chance to witness the various stages of pecan growth throughout the seasons as they enjoyed the course.

Hosted by Farmers Investment Co. (FICO), Breeze in the Trees has become a cherished community tradition, combining fitness with philanthropy. Thanks to the support of generous sponsors—Desert Diamond Casino, The Running Shop, Farmers Business Network, Edward Jones of Tubac, Western Blend Fertilizer, Sprinkler World, and the Greater Green Valley Community Foundation—and contributions from participant registrations, 100% of net proceeds were donated to local organizations, including the 4-H Club of Sahuarita, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) at Rio Rico High School, the Green Valley Firefighters Association, and Saguaro City Music Theater. In total, $8,500 was raised to benefit these causes.

The event drew 301 participants of all ages, who enjoyed a run through the thriving pecan orchard while appreciating its agricultural significance. Participants also had the opportunity to pet goats, rabbits, cows, and other irresistible animals brought in by the 4-H Club. The day began with a stirring rendition of the U.S. National Anthem by Zach Wetzel of Saguaro City Music Theater and concluded with a traditional pancake breakfast prepared by the Green Valley Firefighters, featuring pecans grown on-site.

“We’re incredibly proud to host Breeze in the Trees and contribute to the success of local schools and non-profits,” said event organizer Paula Beemer. “This event is more than just a run—it’s about uniting the community and giving back.”

Breeze in the Trees is the second event in a three-part series, with the final race, the Pecan Classic Run, scheduled for Nov. 9 at 8 a.m. Participants can register for the Pecan Classic at https://www.greenvalleypecan.com/5k-runs/. The continued enthusiasm and involvement of the community will ensure the ongoing success of these beloved events.
